Someone has to kick things off, and Steve's such a shy, retiring violet, I thought I'd do it. So here's an introduction thread so that we can all say a little about ourselves. Hello, I'm Twig, named for my racing snake physique. I'm in Manchester now, though I'm Brummie by birth, I've been guilty of concentrating too much on grippers in the past, so I'm now expanding my repetoire to include pinch, bending, vbar, thickbar et al. Since my training partner moved away, I've become really half-arsed about my training, so if there's anyone in my area that wants to hook up and give me a kick training-wise, feel free to get in touch. Oh, and here's me:

Hi,
I'm Nick, a new member. Been interested in hand strength for a long time. Currently working on closing the CoC #3. I close the CoC 2.5 the other day for the first time. Any training ideas on this?
Cheers, Nick

Hi Folks,
I train primarily for strongman but decided to enter David's champion of steel contest and now the grip/bending bug has bitten. Luckily the two go well together I think and I intend to compete in both next year.
I have always done a little bit of grip work but will now be adding at least one grip specific workout to my training to try and bridge the gap between a good strongman grip and what a lot of you guys do.

Hi Steve, Hi David,
Good to see you have the BHSA up and running.
As you know I train/compete in various strength related sports, primarily Strongman and Highland Games in recent years both as Competitor and Promoter.
Aims with regard Grip specific tests of strength are to close No.4 CoC and to Clean and Press my Inch Dumbbell.
Yours in strength

Hi, I read the books and have seen the tapes. Seems I am missing something.....
I usually train grip 3x a week. I warm up, then do 3 sets pinch grip with the Ironmind block. The 3 stes with a gripper (3.5, 3, then 2.5). Then 3 sets with the Jackhammer gripper (I can vary the staring point). Then 3 sets with the Ivanko gripper using just the last three fingers then two sets working on thumb muscle. I am making progress but it seems slower than it should, at least when I read about how long it took others ot get to the #3.
Ideas?

Hi Al, Some lofty goals there! Good luck with them, and hopefully we will see you at an event, or maybe sometime next year you and Mike can run a comp/exhibition day up there.

Hi I post as noob saibot on the gripboard, but thought I'd use my real name here since it's our cosy intimate little BHSA forum! Been training grip for about 18 months now, since realising I had weak hands when trying to do a high ropes course. Made slow but steady progress and entered the novice class of the British grip champs earlier this year. By the way, anyone thinking of competing I would urge to give it a try. You'll learn a lot and everyone is really supportive so don't worry that you're 'not strong enough yet'. Currently giving the kta gripper routine a go, with the #2.5 as my goal.

Hello! Im pete or peter, know as Pete1006 on Gripboard. Just to say that i'm very excited about the BHSA. I think we should try to increase awareness in gyms and different workplaces of this sport that is developing, maybe we can creat like a simple flyer explaining what things we do in hand/grip strength, this may be a cunning way to get more guys to join the sport. Looking forward to seeing this sport develop through this great association. Cheers to David and Steve for setting this up for us, Pete

Hi from scotland! I competed in a couple of grip comps at David's a few years back. Have missed the grip training since doing strongman comps but i have kept an interest and its good to be back! Started training thick bar with a goal of one day deadlifting my inch dumbell which i have just received. I don't know if i will succeed but will have a great time trying!! I have seen the light and am now using credit card in training grippers.... much harder though... Also like to get my pinch back up.... Great gym that Al has up here in perth, with tons of strongman gear that we can add to with loads of grip stuff... mike
