So have I. Used it for fun only. When you say over-crushes are effective what do you mean?

found that i perform better on my heavier sets when i warm up with lighter sets of overcrushes. Ive got "close the gap" straps that i havent used for a while as well. What do you think of these straps, steve?

Never used them and I have them to. They are a useful tool for some - just not me.

Hi everyone, I'm Chris and I've got into gripping via strength training, as I hope I be good at it one day... Always been fasinated with grip, but just never thought of it as something to train. I am now though. Thanks to David - I'll be starting off slowly thanks to your advice. Enjoying the community so far, it's nice to have a forum of our own, rather than everything being States based. Nothing against Americans, mind - I married one.

Hello, Welcome. How are you? What's your background in lifting?
Whereabouts are you based?

I'm not bad at all thanks for asking. Hope all is well with you and yours.
I started strength training in April after years of thinking that weights was all about bicep curls and leg extensions. I found a site (which I'll mention if requested to) that talked about strength training in terms of squats, deadlifts and presses, which I'd never really looked at before. I started a pure strength program on this site's recommendation and I've never looked back. I really enjoy it, much more than what I now understand to be bodybuilding routines.
I was watching a really big guy in the gym doing lat pulldowns, for which he had strapped himself in with wrist straps. As he was hauling up the entire stack, it dawned on me that his strength was useless - his grip limited his strength, and in terms of the amount of strength he could apply to an object, I realised that I was probably stronger than he was due to doing my deadlifts with a double overhand grip. With my motivation for training being solely for strength and not for aesthetics, I decided to train my grip too, and here I am.
Based on the Wirral and in Barrow-in-Furness for work.

Hi
Nice board Steve.
As my username suggests my name is Daniel and I've been grip training for around 5 years capable of closing an IM 2.5 for 2 reps and a seasoned IM #2 for 13 reps. I'm still trying to re-achieve a single close of the #2.5 since I've seemed to lose a bit of strength recently.
I specialize in thickbar / axle work too which makes up the bulk of my full body training as well as stuff for fun inclusive of one hand axle deadlifts. My current PR stands at 80kg.

I am Fred Coombs, 6'1", 15st 3lb, I am 20, I live in Manchester when at university (studying geography and geology) and in Cherhill, a small village in wiltshire when at home.
I have been gripping for 2 years or more now.
I try to train once a week with twig (Neil Belcher) when in Manchester and whenever the mood takes me when at home. I don't have a strict or planned training scheme, just do I as and when because I enjoy getting strong.
I use grippers, kettlebells, train pinch sometimes, use blobs, pretty much anything really since twig has the lot.
Current, short term interests are pinch 6 x 5kg, lift the inch to full deadlift (no tilt or wobble which I have to contend with at the moment), shut a 3.5 and lever a 20lb sledge.
