Some questions
why was the topic locked?
Because the GB requires that ANY world class feat of strength needs photo and or video proof. And because the subject of whether or not John and Kim Woods word is enough has been done to death. Neither the first part nor the second have been met well.
Anyone who has been around for more than a few months can easily check out some claims which have been made in the past. One prime example was on wikipedia: Riki Kiru's page claimed he squatted 1500lbs (first lie) and that Paul Anderson was there in Finland (lies 2 and 3) when he did so. Paul Anderson was dead and had been ill for a long time prior to dying and had not traveled for many years because of the illness. No photo or video existed of Riki's inhuman lift nor did it actually take place. I was responsible for getting the comment removed.
Because of such claims (esp in the past) the GB ensured a sense of historical accuracy would take place by asking for proof. Not friendly witnesses but actual evidence.
Did it happen as described both on the board and in Ellingtons book?
No. Old guy, repeating his reply twice for effect, has it precisely right. Kim described, John agreed and the single photo supports, the idea that when the 3 MDB's arrived at their home, they were unpacked from the crate on the back of the truck. John then approached said truck and one handed the bells to the ground. The photo shows, as per oldguys description, John holding the bell against his upper thigh (right hand, right thigh).
Photo of same (note comment, hand position, shirt being caught etc):
Ellington Darden took Kim's word as is. While I am sure he has some knowledge of the grip world I doubt he knows well enough what the limits are.
Is someones word enough?
No. Kim and John are as big, if not bigger, fans of Iron Game history as anyone out there. Those that have LITERALLY sat at Kim's feet have heard him tell some awesome stories about the Iron Game. Kim is especially good at the ones where people tell outrageous lies, took drugs then denied it and more. He has, in his own words, knowledge of 'all the skeletons'. In other words all the fraud, BS and so on that has both taken place and continues to do so.
In this so-called digital age when we can buy said digital cameras for £30.00 with video facilities and put them on the net, rough and uncut, within minutes of filming them no matter how bad they look there is no excuse. I do support the view that neither would have thought it was going to be a special moment yet a photo was taken.
In spite of the esteem in which Kim and to a less degree John are held (deservedly so in many regards), that some still think they should not be held to the same standards as others is very annoying to say the least.
John has an awesome grip (his stuff with TNS on some hard grippers is right at the top) but he did NOT pick up 2 millennium dumbbells and walk with them, either against his thighs or otherwise and take them up 2 steps to the patio at the rear of Kim's house. There exists a photo of John and Kim with 3 MDB's and 2 Inch's all in the same location.
Photo from Gripgallery:
So we have one with John holding a MDB against his thigh and another with all three sitting on their deck but none of the walk in between.
I have no idea as to why Ellington added it to the book, I'm struggling to even think if Kim told it that way (other than for fun - because he did not like his word questioned one bit) nor why when, once again, the bloody subject is ballsed up by people who could have checked their facts before posting a single word on the GB. Thank you to the Mods for locking it.
Do you still think it took place?
