Monday Ouch, ouch, ouch! My old man stiff back is here today. While I am moving around it took the edge of my workout today so was piss poor. I should and hopefully will take the rest of the week off but stretch and walk it out everyday. I haven't had a rest from weight training of all kinds per se for yonks so maybe it's time.
I suspect it was the mad Saturday session we had at the weekend at the yard followed by more or less sweet f**k all all day (as in the only 'work' was going to the shop for the paper) on Sunday
Grippers 240ip x multiple doubles CoC 3.5 x 6-8 attempts
V-Bar Could only go to 105 right and nothing left due to back strain / twinge.

Hi, I am trying to close the CoC #3. I've read all the grip the books and have seen most of the tapes. Seems I am missing something.....
I usually train grip 3x a week. I warm up, then do 3 sets pinch grip with the Ironmind block. The 3 stes with a gripper (3.5, 3, then 2.5). Then 3 sets with the Jackhammer gripper (I can vary the staring point). Then 3 sets with the Ivanko gripper using just the last three fingers then two sets working on thumb muscle. I am making progress but it seems slower than it should, at least when I read about how long it took others ot get to the #3.
Ideas?

Nick, Are you training to cert with IronMind?
If so, you will be training credit card close, yes?
Also do your most important training first, why put a pinch in before grippers if this is your goal.

After posting in my log... I agree with David. In fact I've said so many times in my other GB log that if I do ANYTHING grip related before grippers then I lose loads.

No training yet still parts of me are aching. The left shoulder / trap aches, the lower back is still stiff... just annoying and frustrating.

Hi,
YEs I am trying to certify with the 3.
The reason I am doing the pinch grip stuff first is that I had read a training article that said that the ring and little finger weakness was a major factor in failing to close the 3. So I started doing the pinch grip stuff and I did notice an increas in hand strength pretty quickly.
I guess I am just wondering if it is taking too long, whatever that means.

Saturday First day back after week off and me hungry!
CG Bench Took it relatively easy in terms of reps etc and so: 20-kilos a side x 8 reps, 30-kilos e/s x 4 reps, 40-kilos e/s x 1 rep, 45-kilos e/s x 1 rep, 50-kilos e/s x 1 rep 55-kilos e/s x 1 rep, 60-kilos e/s x 1 rep
For a change of pace tried some partials. All now from hole 11 in rack 40-kilos e/s x 3 rep, 50-kilos e/s x 3 rep, 60-kilos e/s x 3 rep and 70-kilos e/s (160) x 3 reps
2HP @ 44mm equ x 6 reps, plus 30-kilos x 3 reps, plus 50-kilos x 1 rep, plus 60-kilos x 1 rep, plus 70-kilos x 12 x 1 reps (actually did 13 but one missed and took a few reps to get 'groove greased'.

Steve,
In John Brookfield's CD he recommends training w/o the grippers and using them mainly for testing. Thoughts?

Not for me. Nick McKinless seems to favor a similar idea though.

Last post deleted. We have a general section, indeed many and this is a training log. Keep off topic posts out. Or use PM, or use email. And try using grammar and lower case. One of the advantages of being admin is the delete option. Don't make me use it. Ditto other posts of the same ilk. Keep any in this thread to my training - ta.
