Jesus Christ! I've had my fair share of disagreements over the years in our little sport but have yet to offer anyone ask 'come to this forum where I can speak my mind' and so on. We've had the 'rattles' from several 'prams' thrown out - phrases like 'shove it, your all C.U.*.T.S, I'm off, d**n the lot of you' and more passed between rivals.
David gets my full support for trying to make sense of what to me seems a hideous mess. It's like a house is spotless but, as you are shown around, the host says 'oh don't go in there it's a bit of a mess' and I can hear scuffling on the other side of a shaking door. That to me is the bending forum on the GB and I'd imagine one or two others.
Back when I did it with any serious intent there was a small level of enjoyment from what amounted to showing off. I trained it to the point of bending a 267.5-kilo rated challenge bar and did, I think, a G5 or a G8 (it was the bronze looking one - damned hard work 'n' all). I even got a IM red going but was not able to crush down. However, my sole motivation at that level was for competition only. I found the discomfort and occasionally the pain was not something that would encourage me to do it for 'fun'. My drive to place well in events meant I would push through the aches so I can kind of get why guys look at a thick piece of apparently unbendable steel and go hell bent for leather to get that baby done.
What I have a problem with, and yes I'm aware that this soap boxing has a sense of irony about it when I make these statements, is the level to which disagreements over the silliest things gets. I fail to see quite how personal one can become over the thickness of a pad held in the hand to protect it when a length of metal is bent. I'm mystified by the level of vitriol exchanged between 'benders' (always makes me laugh ;D ) over whether or not over hand or under hand should be used.
Quite how one then becomes deeply offended and takes each and every new issue, or worst recently dug up again issue, so personally to the point of either posting some form of a defense for you action, 'offering out' each other or actually sitting around and debating someones actions of many 1000's of miles away as not being quite right... give me a break FFS.
I suspect it was some of these issues which has driven David to the point where he, hopefully of all of the grip guys, wants to see this ugly mess sorted out. He needs YOUR support and so, agree or not - leaving out any personal disagreements - get stuck in and get it sorted.
